Mrs. Alease Hinson Strawn, age 99, of Inman, South Carolina, formerly of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Magnolia Manor in Inman, South Carolina.

Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street in Monroe, officiated by Reverend Phil McLean.  Interment will be follow in Faulks Baptist Church Cemetery in Marshville.

Mrs. Strawn was born on May 28, 1918, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Ruben J. Hinson and Ada Ethel Moser Hinson.  She was a retired sales associate with the Smart Shop in Monroe and a devoted homemaker.

Mrs. Strawn was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe and had been a former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Charlotte, Sutton Park Baptist Church of Monroe, and Faulks Baptist Church of Marshville. Among her many accomplishments, she graduated salutatorian from Union High School in 1935. She worked at Camp Sutton during World War II as a dental hygientist while her husband was serving in the Italian Campaign. She cared for German and Italian POW’s. She was a pianist for many years and was still playing at 95 years old. From an early age, she loved singing hymns and continued until she was 98 years old.

She later was a Den Mother and grade room Mother for her children for many years. She achieved much success at the Smart Shop in Monroe, NC. She was a very godly woman, she served in the church in many ways through WMU, GA’s, Sunday School teacher for many years. She taught her children the Bible, and everyone loved her so much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Heath L. Strawn, Sr. in 1991.

Survivors include her son, Heath L. Strawn, Jr. and wife, Peggy, of Duncan, SC; two daughters, Brenda Alease White and husband, Gary, of Dallas, TX, Elizabeth  Strawn Huskey and husband, Jim, of Matthews; one sister, Ellen Simpson of Monroe; seven grandchildren, Allen Bettis, III and wife, Martha, Jennifer Lynn Strawn, Stephanie Michelle Gordon and husband, Brandon, Natalie Suzanne Strawn Sharp and husband, Doug, Sara Elizabeth Huskey, Anna Kathryn Deegan and husband, Ryan, Amanda Paige Huskey; and six great-grandchildren, McKamey Gordon, Manning Gordon, Brayden Sharp, Mason Sharp, Londyn Huskey and McKayla Bettis.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 12, 2017, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home at 1003 East Franklin Street in Monroe.
