Mrs. Bertha Leola Baucom, age 97, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016, at Jesse Helms Nursing Home.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Reverend Bill Englebreth. Interment will follow at Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Baucom was born on May 3, 1919, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Henry and Nancy Wallace. She was married to the late Winfred Charles Baucom. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Mavis Baucom Parker; her three brothers Clarence Wallace, Robert “Bob” Wallace and Burke Wallace; her sisters Loma Wallace Yandle and Faye Wallace Hoskins; her infant granddaughter Kimberly Ann Baucom; her great grandchild Blake Andrew Carlton in 2011; her two daughter-in-laws Betty Baucom and Tina Carroll Baucom; and her two son-in-laws Nolan Wayne Blackburn and Bert Parker.

Survivors include her two sons Shelly M. Baucom and wife Pat of Monroe and Charles Ray Baucom of Unionville; her daughter Peggy B. Blackburn of Marshville; her brother Claude Wallace of Marshville; her sister Ethel Tucker of Monroe; her five grandchildren Michael Blackburn of Monroe, Ronnie Blackburn of Fayetteville, Renee Nolan of Marshville, David Blackburn of Marshville, and Ellen Hinson of Monroe; her seven great grandchildren Danielle A. Carlton of SC, Charlie Blackburn of Monroe, Ryan Blackburn and Lathan Blackburn of Mineral Springs, Brandon Blackburn of Monroe, Daniel Hinson and Joseph Hinson; her five step grandchildren Angie Gardner of Albemarle, Jamie Sims of Laurinburg, Chris Sims of Indian Trail, Kari Crook of Wingate and Corey Sims of Monroe; her twelve step great grandchildren Jaron, Cale, and Tyler Gardner, Hailey, Kyleigh, Taylor, and Juliann Sims, Krissie, Riley and Connor Crook, Cayden and Tucker Sims; her two step great great grandchildren Liam Gardner and Cason Helms.
