George W. Estes Jr., age 86, Passed Peacefully on Sunday April, 7th, 2019 at Autumn Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Marshville, NC

George was born February 21, 1933 to the late George W. Estes Sr. and Helen Anne Sayah Estes, in Hanover, New Hampshire. George attended Hanover High School and was a member of the Marauders Football Team until he graduated. After High School, George served our Great Country as an Army MP in Company C, 32nd Regiment of the 25th Division, during the Korean War. After his service, he began a long and successful career in the insurance industry, retiring as the Vice President of Blue Cross Blue Shield, Vermont. George was very involved in the community in many levels. George was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner of the Mount Sinai Temple, Montpelier, VT. George enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, painting and most of all his woodworking. His family was very involved in a fishing club; Meccawe Trout Club in Bridgewater, Vermont. George was proud to teach his grandsons how to fly fish at the Club. George will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends, as a well-spoken and clever man with a warm sense of humor.

George is survived by his daughter Dawn Marie Cattier and her husband John Peter Cattier of Marshville, NC, a son Roger Anthony Estes of Chiang Mai, Thailand, a son George Willis Estes III of Barre, VT, five grandsons: Donovan Michael Brown Sr., of Winsted,CT, Darrell Marcus Brown of Gardnerville, NV, John Willis Estes of Weymouth, MA, Ben Avery Estes of Heber City, UT and John Andrew Cattier of Muskegon, MI, his Granddaughter, Catherine Suzanne Cattier Franks of Barre, VT and seven Great-Grandchildren. In addition George left behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Survivors also include daughter-in-law Diana Estes of Plainfield, VT and a half-sister Janet Hazlett of Lebanon, NH.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Joy Marie Avery Estes, and his two brothers; Leo Willis Estes and Robert Willis Estes.

Memorial Services will be held on 11:00 AM, October 5th, 2019  at the Evergreen Cemetery in S. Strafford, VT. In Lieu of Flowers please donate in Memory of George W. Estes Jr.; to the “Shriners Hospital for Children Boston”, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
