Mrs. Mary Armetta Mullis Hinson, 93 of Monroe, NC passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Saturday August 5th 2017 with her family by her side drawing the close to a long and happy life.

All services will be at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe. Visitation will be Tuesday the 8th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and the funeral will be Wednesday the 9th at 11:00 AM, officiated by her former Pastor of Hebron United Methodist Church, Mike Hawks. Burial will follow immediately at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe.

As a child Mary was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church in Midland and later became an active member of Hebron United Methodist Church in Monroe. She raised her family there, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and enjoyed her church fellowship.

Mary was born in Mecklenburg County on November 6th, 1923 to the late Samuel Franklin Mullis and Flora Quintine (Jones) Mullis. She was a 1940 graduate of Fairview High School and was voted the Prettiest Girl in her Senior Class.

She later graduated from Kings Business School in Charlotte and went on to work in the business world of Keypunch, now known as the early IBM International Business Machines. She married in 1950 and ten years later became a full time housewife and mother.

Mary was often found in the kitchen as she enjoyed cooking and was known to share her many talents through a delicious meal. Her Thanksgiving Chicken Dressing, German Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Silk Pie were among the requested favorites.

Everyone knew her big smile, quick wit and gifted storytelling. She rarely met a stranger, was always up for an adventure and lived to tell of things she had witnessed in her journey. She was a loving person who touched the lives of many just being who she naturally was.

Mary fully enjoyed each moment of every day, active well into her 90’s and was often asked what her secret was for a long and happy life. She would smile and say, “Oh, I’m just an old country girl who grew up on cornbread and milk”! Obviously, it served her well.

She was a beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother and Friend to all who knew her. She even answered to “Granny” from a precious little boy named Liam Langley. She loved all people, but her greatest joy was spending time with her children throughout the years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hinson and her only sibling, Margaret Elizabeth Mullis Huntley. Surviving are her children, John Smith Hinson of Monroe, NC, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Hinson of Indian Land, SC with Brian Maxwell, her future son in-law and biggest fan.

We also want to give thanks to Mary’s caregivers that became family to her. They shared their hearts, hands and healing in her home. God’s blessings were apparent in Mary’s last years in many ways, one of them being these steadfast caregivers, family and friends.

Mary’s in-home caregivers were Miss Beth Jenkins (Beth Jr. or Buttercup), Miss Brandi Tadlock, Miss Stacey Langley, Miss Savannah Langley, Miss Tonya Rayfield, Mrs. Doris Bratos and Mrs. Lola Catoe. Her very special hairstylist was Mrs. Jennifer Thomas and her much anticipated Sunday visitors were Jerry and Linda Helms.

She requested a favorite Hymn “When They Ring Those Golden Bells” be sung as it was also played at her Mother’s funeral many years ago. She would sometimes sing that song as she worked around the house remembering her parents, just as we remember her now.

Her favorite color was Pink and her Life Celebration will be also, please feel free to wear pink to the services in her honor, as her family will do. Her favorite song was “What a Wonderful World” by Louie Armstrong and it will be played as we look back over her “Wonderful Life” in pictures.

Mary’s Caregivers will be hosting friends in “Miss Mary’s” Home Wednesday after the burial service, everyone is Welcome to come and share as we honor her one last time.
