Nora Lee Denning, age 92, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 01, 2017.

Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Nora Denning will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 04, 2017 at Davis Funeral Chapel, officiated by Reverend Richard Johnson and Reverend Eric Nixon. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.

Nora was born December 28th, 1924 in Monroe, North Carolina. She was one of five children born to Eva Susanna Aycoth and James Eyra Knight.

A North Carolina native, she grew up in .Union County graduating from Wingate High  School. While serving as a Practical nurse during World War II at Ellen Fitzgerald Hospital in Monroe, NC, she met her future husband George Elwood Denning while he was in basic training at Sutton Park Military Base. After the war, she joined her fiancé in Wellsville, New York where they were married in 1945.

After living in Wellsville, New York for thirteen years, she moved back to Monroe, North Carolina.

Nora was the heart and glue of her family  Her home was always open to all with wonderful home cooking, smiles, humor, and love. After 70 years of marriage, George  the love of her life passed away January 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by two brothers John Knight, Robert Knight and one sister Ethel Mae Denning. Nora is survived by Betty Johnson and husband John and sister in-law Catherine Knight.

Mrs. Denning is survived by three children, Ondrea Gayle Denning Moore, James (Jim) Arthur Denning and wife Rebecca; Betty Susanna (Susie) McCoy and husband Kenneth; and  grandchildren, Tamela Williams,  James Denning Jr., Olivia McCoy, Timothy Denning, Cynthia Woolford and Emily Denning. Also eight great-grand-children, Zachary, Dillon, Zoey, Colton, EJ, Madeline, Casey, Kaden. She also leaves behind many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George and Nora Denning were members of West Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, NC. Nora was proud of being the oldest member of her beloved church.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, 1003, East Franklin St., Monroe, NC 28112. An online guest resister book is available at www.davisfuneralservice.com.
