Mr. Paul Ray Helms, age 61, of Monroe, North Carolina, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Harris Hospice of Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Davis Funeral Chapel, officiated by Reverend John Jenkins and Jeff Roberts.  Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

Mr. Helms was born on February 10, 1955, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of Gertrude Helms Helms and the late Bruce Robert Helms.  He was the Founder and Owner of Helms Grading Company in Monroe. He was also Co-Founder of Helms and Son Farm with his son Samuel, where his cows were his pride.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Morris.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Starnes Helms of the home; one son, Samuel Paul Helms of the home; two daughters, Jillian Tucker and husband, Clint, of Unionville, Jessica Helms and fiancé, Monty Rea of Monroe; six grandchildren, Addison Helms, Gracie Tucker, Aubryn Helms, Landon Tucker, Axton Rea, and Anderson Rea; his mother, Gertrude H. Helms of Monroe; two brothers, Lee Roy Helms, Sr. of Monroe, Bobby Helms and wife, Marie, of Monroe; his mother-in-law, Mable Starnes Medlin of Lancaster, SC.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home at 1003 East Franklin Street in Monroe.

The Helms family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, Support Staff, and Volunteers of Harris Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Paul and his family during this time.
