Audrey Tyson Obituary

Mrs. Audrey Starnes Tyson, age 95, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away to meet her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at her residence.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 12:00 PM Saturday, September 14, 2019, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173, officiated by Reverend Michael Harris.
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Tyson was born on May 2, 1924, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Judge Dwight Starnes and the late Myrtle Fincher Starnes. Audrey was the first born of five children. She grew up in a farming family along with her siblings , raising dairy cows, chickens and pigs as most farmers did in that part of Union County

After her primary education, she attended Brevard College and The Women's College of the University of North Carolina and graduated with a Degree in Home Economics. Audrey was a retired school teacher with many years of dedicated service.

After Arnold returned to Waxhaw from serving in World War II, they got married on June 1, 1946, and settled in their homeland of Waxhaw, NC and raised their five children on the farm.

She was married to the late Arnold Dixon Tyson for nearly 55 years until his passing in 2001. Audrey was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Daryl Tyson and a brother, Kenneth Folger Starnes Sr.

Survivors include a son, Sam Tyson and wife Lisa Tyson of Waxhaw; three daughters, Vickie Tyson Evans and husband Mark Evans of Falls Church, VA, Marlene Tyson Wallace and husband Kenneth Wallace of Greenville, NC and Lisa Tyson Laton and husband Larry Laton of Waxhaw and a daughter in law, Donna Thomas Tyson Helms of Waxhaw; three sisters, Loma Tyson of Monroe, Betty Lou  Mosley of Waxhaw and Gloria Price of Pineville, NC.
There are 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Her life was devoted to her husband, her family, and teaching students as a home economics teacher and children with special needs for thirty years. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and serving the Lord.  Mrs. Tyson was a life long member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank friends, Church family and caregivers, Dolly, Amy, Linda, and Kay for wonderful care, good company and their love.

I have known the Lord, our God, my entire life, I now look forward to meeting Him.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM Saturday, prior to the funeral ceremony at Bethlehem.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
