Bettie Hawk Croft of Monroe NC was born January 2nd, 1949 in Burlington NC and went home on May 23rd, 2019. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents Tommie Morrison McDaniel Jr. and mother Alice Leath McDaniel of Burlington NC, as well as her husband of 35 years Clyde D. Croft. Bettie will be lovingly remembered by her two children Geoffrey (wife Patricia) and Tiffany, and by her grandchildren Ella and Elizabeth and her sister Lillian Sambraus Walker. Bettie was preceded in death by her brother Dr. Jerry Leath Mills of Washingon, NC and will be forever remembered by her nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Bettie graduated in 1967 from Walter M Williams High School in Burlington, NC where she was a boot girl / majorette. She continued her education at Lees-McRea junior college in Banner Elk, NC and then Asheville-Biltmore College (UNC-A) Asheville NC. Bettie retired from a long career with the Monsanto-Solutia company. She was an avid reader, a scrabble champion, loved doing crossword puzzles, and volunteered to read for children at the local library. Bettie also loved 60’s and beach music, shag dancing, and was a member of the local Red Hatters Club, Waxhaw, NC. Prior to her move from Belchertown, MA, she was a member of the "Beary Hot Hatters," Red Hat Club in Granby, MA. Her constant friend and special companion was her Yorkie puppy Roxy-Bell.
Bettie was always up for an adventure and could tell great stories of her Aunt Libby’s Farm, experiences of renovating mountain homes in Virginia, managing a fly-in wilderness resort in Ontario Canada, and many years of vacations and friends in Lennox, MA. Bettie was also known for faithfully sending out birthday and Christmas cards to her loved ones every year. She loved any opportunity to get together with family and friends for a meal and was an amazing cook, famous for her potato salad. Her friendly smile, generous hugs, easy laughter, and warm and fun-loving nature have been a blessing to all who knew her and will be sorely missed.
There will be a local visitation held at Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin St., Monroe, NC on Friday, May 31st from 6-8PM. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 5th from 1-2PM at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service, 306 Glenwood Ave, Burlington, NC, followed by a Chapel Service at 2PM. A brief luncheon will take place at 2:45PM. All are invited to Stony Creek Cemetery, Burlington, NC afterwards for a graveside memorial.
