Betty was born February 25, 1940 in Union County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Carl Funderburk and Kathleen Williams Funderburk. Throughout her life she was continually dedicated to the lives of children. Providing foster care to over 70 children in Union County, she and her husband were the first couple in the county to foster a newborn child born at Monroe Hospital. Even in her free time, her enjoyment of crocheting led her to focus her efforts and energy to create baby blankets for the infants at her church, and eventually provided baby bonnets to the newborn at CMC-Union. Betty is fondly remembered by her family for her passion and dedication to improving the lives of those around her.
Survivors include her son David and wife Michelle of Pageland, SC, a son, Tim Melton of Myrtle Beach, SC, a sister, Bobbie Jean Lee of Monroe, NC, three grandchildren; Monica Melton of Pageland, SC, Kathleen Melton of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Crystal Garmos of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Melton; and two brothers, Keith Funderburk and Richard Funderburk.
