Mr. Bill B. Hunnicutt, age 87, of Wingate, NC, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Atrium Health Union.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Bill will take place 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Wingate Baptist Church, 109 East Elm Street, Wingate, NC, 28174, officiated by Pastor David Oakley. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
The family will receive friends in the Wingate Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2019, prior to the service.
Mr. Hunnicutt will lie in state Friday, February 22, 2019 in the Davis Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Sunday, February 24, 2019 in the Wingate Baptist Church Sanctuary.
Bill was born March 11, 1931 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Daniel Lester Hunnicutt and Mamie Trull Hunnicutt. Mr. Hunnicutt served our country through his service to the United States Navy. After his service, Bill had a long term career in Environmental Services, retiring from Marion, NC. Above his dedication to his country and his career, Bill was a loving and loyal husband. Married in 1955, Bill enjoyed sharing with others not only that he was happily married, but how many years he been married for. Known for his strong yet kind spirit, Bill never complained, even during a time when he would have reason to. A storyteller and entertainer, Bill loved making people laugh. He is warmly remembered by his family for the unforgettable warmth of his smile and a heart "as good as gold".
Bill is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 63 years, Joan Hunnicutt, a brother, Morris Hunnicutt and wife Martha of Hendersonville, NC, a sister-in-law, Betsy M Hunnicutt of Columbia, SC, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Broome and husband Don of Charlotte, NC, a sister-in-law, Peggy Haney of Indian Trail, NC. Survivors also include numerous nieces and nephews. Joan would like to extend a special thank you to Scott and Teresa Broome for their constant compassion, love, and support for Bill.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hunnicutt, a sister, Jackie Hunnicutt Norton and husband Dr. Bucky Norton, and a brother-in-law, Jamie Haney.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family requests that memorials in Bill's honor be made to Wingate Baptist Church. Joan would also like to express her appreciation to the neighborhood for their love and prayers.
