Mr. Boyd Edwin Mills, age 89, of Wingate, North Carolina, lovingly known as Uncle Ed, passed away peacefully at his home  on Wednesday, March 29, 2017.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC  28112, officiate by Reverend Phil McLean and Reverend Frank Crump.

Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park with military honors.

Mr. Mills was born on March 16, 1928, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Governor Vance Mills and the late Bertha Mills Mills.  In his earlier years he was a Korean Army War Veteran and he worked as an assembly supervisor for Scott Aviation. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Hazeline Gill Mills; his granddaughter, Blair Mills; his two brothers, Emmett Mills and Floyd Mills; his four sisters, Leona Griffin, Virginia Sings, Gertrude Smith, and Estelle Walden.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Musselwhite Nance Mills of Wingate; a daughter, Trina Mills Lynn and Scott of Marshville; a son, Michael Boyd Mills of Monroe; two sisters, Margie Kirkley and Albert Kirkley of  Decatur, GA and Mildred Sawyer and George Sawyer of Emporia, VA.

There are five grandchildren, Paige Plyler, Chelsey Plyler, Kayla Lynn all of Monroe,  Jacob Mills and Benton Mills both of Wingate; three great grandchildren, Sadie Porter, Parker Thomas and Hayden Plyler.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Davis Funeral Chapel, prior to the funeral ceremony.
