Mr. Clarence R. Cook, age 99, passed from this life to his new heavenly home on March 6, 2019 with his family at his side.

A private family burial will held March 15, 2019 at the Waxhaw City Cemetery.

Clarence was born in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Harry LeRoy Cook and Mabel White Cook. He served with the US Army during World War II in Iran with the 3950th Quartermaster Truck Co. Upon his return to the states, he married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Pierce and they were married for over 71 years. Clarence was an expert mechanic. He became a lead test engineer for diesel locomotive engines manufactured by the General Electric Company in Erie, PA from 1964-1981. On his retirement, he and Elizabeth traveled south intending to settle in Florida.  They stopped off at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw and decided to stay and serve as volunteers there for the next 25 years. One of their fondest memories was serving on the mission field in Brazil with the Wycliffe Bible Translators. Clarence was also an expert carpenter and handyman.  During his retirement years, he handcrafted furniture out of local cedar and gave his creations to friends and family members to treasure. Clarence will be remembered for his love and dedication to the Lord. He will also be cherished as a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by a daughter, Judith Harris and husband James of Fairbanks, Alaska, and a son, Jack Cook and wife Paula, of North East, Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind brother-in-law, Rev. Robert Pierce of Long Island, NY and sister-in-law, Helen Feldman of Dayton, Ohio.
Clarence was blessed with 6 grandchildren. Stephen Cook of North East, PA, Serena Szyplik of North East, PA, Heather Vonnahme of Fairbanks, Alaska, Shawn Cook of Waxhaw, NC, Heidi May of Fairbanks, AK, and Christopher Cook of North East, PA. He also had 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth, and a great grandchild, Brendan Bostwick.
