Mrs. Florence “Pat” Laton, age 86, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at her residence.
Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Laton will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, March 25 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 6907 Gus Eubanks Rd., Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Pastor Eddie Barbee and Pastor John Lindsay.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Laton was born on September 12, 1931,in Ansonville, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Malcolm Coleman Lee and late Minnie Cole Lee. Pat was a bus driver for almost 40 years, and was the first adult bus driver in Union County. She also enjoyed her time as a cafeteria worker at Prospect and Parkwood Middle School and is affectionately remembered as the “lunchroom angel”. A mother to everyone, Pat was dedicated to making sure all children were treated equally, because she believed that we are all God’s children. She enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking, and there was always a place at her table. Filled with compassion, kindness, and unconditional love, she was happy anywhere she went, and lived a simple, yet great life.
Mrs. Laton was preceded in death and now is eternally reunited with the love of her life, Mr. Robert Laton. She was also preceded by three brothers; Jason Lee, Jim Lee, Edward Lee, and two sisters; Sarah Vanhoy and Margie Jones.
Survivors include three sons; Calvin Laton and wife Tiny of Monroe, NC, Richard Laton and wife Wanda of Monroe, NC Larry Laton and wife Lisa of Waxhaw, NC, and daughter Carolyn McManus and husband Tim of Monroe, NC. She is also survived by the 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren that she loved so very much. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 PM Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
