Mr. Frank A. Tyson Jr., age 85, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at McWhorter Hospice House of Union County.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, January 11 2019 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173, officiated by Pastor Mike Harris. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC, 28112.
The family will receive friends between 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, January 10 in the Azalea Room of Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112.
Frank was born February 6, 1933, in Union County, NC, a son of the late Frank Aaron Tyson Sr. and Margaret Starnes Tyson. Frank began his career with the NCDOT, and provided 43 years of service prior to his retirement. Upon retirement, Frank enjoyed gardening and wine making. He enjoyed tending to his tomato plants and sharing the fruits of his labor with those he loved. He produced many different flavors of wine, based on the fruits brought to him by friends in the community. His wine production was not only a special gift to his community, but also served at his grandchildren's weddings, and provided to soldiers overseas for use during communion. A devoted Mason, Frank received his 50 Years of Service Pin from Waxhaw Lodge #562. Described by his family as a loving father and dedicated husband, Frank will be dearly missed and warmly remembered.
Frank is survived by his loving and loyal wife of over 65 years, Rachel Helms Tyson, a daughter, Kathy Tyson Medlin and husband Sheldon of Waxhaw, NC, a son, Mike Tyson and wife Trina of Waxhaw, NC, a son, Tim Tyson of Waxhaw, NC, a son, Scott Tyson and wife Jennifer of Waxhaw, NC, a sister, Violet Tyson Cook and husband Ray of Monroe, NC, a sister, Joyce Tyson Pope and husband Stan of Monroe, NC, 11 grandchildren; Leann Medlin Yandle (Billy), Natalie Medlin Moore (Matt), Wesley Tyson (Nerissa), Christy Caudle (Jamie), Kelly Tyson (Mallorie), Josh Tyson, Erin Tyson, Gabe Tyson, Taylor Tyson, Cody Dupree (Morgan), and Samantha Dupree. Survivors also include 10 great-grandchildren; Kolby Broome, Bryston Yandle, Mason Moore, Easton Moore, Kayzen Tyson, Anistyn Tyson, Breyden Tyson, Maggie Caudle, Blakeney Tyson, and Kamryn Dupree, as well as extended loving family Steve Medlin & Kay Griffin, Anthony, Sarah & Parker Broome.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family requests that memorials in Frank's honor be made to McWhorter Hospice House of Union County, or the Shriners Hospital of your choice.
