Jimmy Lewis Craig, age 80, of Monroe, NC, passed away at his residence on Monday, December 16, 2019.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Jimmy touched are invited to a visitation between 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, December 19, 2019, in the Dogwood Room of Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 20, 2019 in the Davis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.  

Born on June 1, 1939 to Lewis Ervin Craig and Ellie Alexander Craig, Jimmy was a life-long resident of Union County.  After graduating from Mineral Springs High School in 1957, he went on to earn an Associates degree from Wingate College in 1966, a Bachelor of Philosophy from Wake Forest University in 1968, and a Master of Public Affairs from North Carolina State University in 1977.

In 1972, Jimmy married Wanda Dawn Teague and together they had a daughter and two sons.  He served as Chief Court Counselor of the 20th Judicial District for the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.  In 2012, Jimmy was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Pat McCrory for exceptional accomplishments and 42 years of exemplary service to his community and the State.  Jimmy served on the Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils for Union, Anson, Richmond, and Stanly counties.   He had a passion for gardening and for coaching youth sports.  He served as a coach and mentor to hundreds of children at Prospect Athletic Recreation Association, Waxhaw Athletic Association, and Monroe Parks and Recreation.   

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Wanda; his daughter, Heather Henage (Lee); his sons, Adam Craig (Emmy) and Justin Craig (Courtney); eleven grandchildren, Teague, Charles, and Locksley Henage; Alyssa, Chloe, Caydence, Mark, and Melody Craig; and Isabel, Oliver, and Grace Craig; his sister, Dianne Starnes (Judge); his brother, Murphy Craig, and two sisters-in-law; Helen Craig Conrad and Gwen Craig.   

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Anita Craig; and his brothers, Clyde Craig and Horace Craig.

Although flowers are appreciated, the Craig family requests that donations may be made in Jimmy’s honor to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC  27565( ).
