June Howell

June Gibson Howell, age 68, of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of June's Life will be held 5:00 PM, Sunday, March 3, 2019, in the Davis Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Rev. Jay Stikeleather.

The family will receive friends in the Azalea Room of Davis Funeral Service beginning at 3:00 PM prior to the Celebration of Life.

June was born on October 22, 1950 in Elizabethtown, NC to the late Edward Gibson and Mary Savage.  She married her best friend and love of her life on August 25, 1970. June graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Master’s in Elementary Education.  She began her teaching career at Waxhaw Elementary in 1986 and later served as the Principal at Sardis Elementary school.  Prior to retiring, June spent time in the UCPS central office as the director of elementary education. Of her many accomplishments, June was most proud of her role as mother and grandmother. She adored her children and treasured every moment spent with them. Later in life, she especially loved her role as “Grammy” to her grandson and three granddaughters.  June had the kindest of souls, a lively personality and a quick wit. She was known to tell a good story and in true Southern fashion, it was always slightly embellished.

June was the loving and devoted wife of 48 years to Randall Howell Sr. and mother of Randy Jr. (Suzanne) and Carson (Chris Baucom).  She has four grandchildren, Olivia and Abigail Howell and Madelyn and Miles Baucom. June has one brother Scott Gibson (Cheri). She was blessed with a lifetime of caring and devoted friends and family and cherished every moment spent with them.
