Lane was born April 26, 1949 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Olin Lee Kiker and Betty Jo Mullis Kiker. Throughout his life, Lane was self employed as a stone mason and flooring contractor. Lane didn't believe in idle hands, and shared his work ethic with those around him. For several years following his career, Lane enjoyed spending time at the Mint Hill and Union County Farmers Market. Lane and his wife Joyce shared a passion for gardening, and the farmers market not only allowed Lane to share his better boy tomatoes with his community, but provided an opportunity to visit and talk with friends. Lane also loved his church, King Memorial Baptist. He could be found pulling barbeque, or scrambling eggs on Easter morning for a church breakfast, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to the congregation. Whether listening to bluegrass music, watching Gunsmoke, or pulling for the NFL team from Dallas in his free time, it could be said that Lane appreciated all things considered cowboy. Above all else, Lane loved his family. He is warmly remembered by his loved ones as a loving husband who kissed his wife on his way out the door every morning no matter what, a wonderful father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather. Lane will be greatly missed by his family, and will never be forgotten.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Joyce Hammonds Kiker of Monroe, NC, a daughter, Tammy Kiker Cox of Monroe, NC, a son, Jeffery Lane Kiker and wife Crystal of Monroe, NC, three grandsons; Dustin Lane Rape, Jacob Lane Kiker and wife Holly, Lucas Hollingsworth, one granddaughter: Gracie Hollingsworth, four great-grandchildren; Dustin Lane "DJ" Rape Jr., Jace Lane Kiker, Boone Carroll Kiker, and Wyatt Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, Lane was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and one amazing little Boston Terrier, Jenny, who was the definition of loyalty and compassion.
