CHARLOTTE - Margie J. Snyder, 93, passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2018 after a brief illness. Margie was born on July 13, 1924 and lived in the Buffalo, NY, area for 75 years before moving to Charlotte in 1998.

She spent her childhood years in Rochester and then in Eden, NY, with her parents, the late Clifford Horace and Agnes Josephine Crockett Case. Growing up she worked at the family restaurant and later at the Hanger’s Department Store tearoom in Buffalo. During World War II, Mrs. Snyder volunteered as an air raid warden in Eden.

Margie lived in Hamburg, NY, for 55 years and was married to John Everett Snyder for 46 years before his passing.

Margie retired from Rite Aid in Hamburg after 38 years and then moved to Charlotte where she worked for 13 years at Southpark Mall.  She later began volunteering at the Tyvola Senior Center where she became known as ‘Marge in Charge.’ She accumulated approximately 13,000 volunteer hours over her 14 years of service, and received the Presidential Service Award for her volunteer service, the Monroe T. Gilmour Award from the Mecklenburg County Council on Aging in 2008, and was North Carolina nominee for the Salute to Senior Service Award in 2014.

She is survived by her son John Van (Liz Clarke) Snyder and grandson Maxwell Everett Snyder of Charlotte. She is also survived by her brother Hal (Heidi) Case of West Seneca, NY, and Priscilla (Karl) Hering of Orchard Park, NY, and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brother Clifford Case.

A celebration of her life was held Feb. 3 at Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home, and she was buried next to her beloved husband at Hillcrest Cemetery in Hamburg, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tyvola Senior Center, 2225 Tyvola Road, Charlotte (980-314-1320).
