Norman was born June 17, 1937 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Vance Fanander Rushing and Gertrude Simpson Rushing. A machinist for Duff Norton and later First Metals, Norman was a man with incredible technical ability that worked with precision. Described as a farm boy, throughout his life Norman had an appreciation for all of God's creation, and was an avid outdoorsman. A man who didn't whisper and never met a stranger, he was a friend to everyone and always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed hunting, working on cars, and his deer club, but above all Norman loved his family. Always taking the time in life to cherish the importance of family, he could be found visiting with his loved ones or enjoying fellowship over a meal. Norman will be warmly remembered by the ones who loved him most as a man who spoke with conviction who was simple, yet perfect.
Norman is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of over 60 years, Sara Rape Rushing, a daughter, Cynthia Phillips (Dan), a daughter, Brenda Helms (Joe), a brother, J.
