Mr. Randy Edge, age 77, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, passed away from this life to eternal paradise on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Brookdale Monroe Square Memory Care.
A Celebration of Life for Randy will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112 officiated by Pastor Chris Edwards. A reception held in Randy's honor will follow the service, beginning at noon.
The family will receive friends prior to the celebration service, from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM.
Randy was born on July 21, 1941, in Wilmington, NC, a son of the late Tom Edge Sr. and Rosa Harmon Edge. In his youth, Randy enjoyed playing basketball and football. After graduating High School, Randy protected our country through his service in the United States Air Force. Randy served with distinction as an Air Traffic Controller for four years. Afterwards, he joined the Navy Reserves and Coast Guard until 1969. Following his military service, Randy attended college and worked for the Charlotte News and Observer. He invested in real estate, then opened Coastal Auto Sales in Shallotte. Randy enjoyed poetry, oldies music, and especially the simple things in life. He believed in being honest, fair, and humble. He enjoyed being a secret Santa who purchased bicycles and basketballs for kids at Christmas. Randy is warmly remembered by those who knew him as a loving father and a loyal friend who was often sought out for advice. The piece of advice he’d want us to continue sharing with others is that "people can learn a lot from dogs". Randy loved dogs and many shared their lives with him over the years. Instead of flowers, please consider a donation or volunteering in his name at your local animal shelter, Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice of Charlotte.
Randy is survived by his daughters; Monica Helms and Sharon McNeil, a brother, Tom Edge Jr., two grandchildren; Jessica Bumgarner and Bryan Edge, and two great-grandchildren; Jamie Bumgarner and Atlas Edge.
In addition to his parents, Randy was also preceded in death and reunited in eternal life with his wife Betty Edge, Brother Buck Edge, Sister Evelyn Edge, and Great-Granddaughter Leigh Ann Bumgarner.
