Mr. Roger Nelson Collins, age 84, of Monroe, NC, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Atrium Health Union.
A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 24, 2019, in the Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Rev. Mike Whitson. Interment with full military honors will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC, 28112.
The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM, prior to the funeral.
Roger was born March 15, 1935 in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Henry Samuel Collins and Lessie Presson Collins. Mr. Collins served our country through his service to the United States Army during the Korean War. A self-employed farmer as well a mechanic for Massey Ferguson, he was known as a hard worker and good provider for his family. Described as a man of faith who appreciated the simple things in life, Roger was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church and a choir director for Grace Methodist Church. Roger is warmly remembered by his loved ones for his kindness, compassion, and dedication to the family he loved dearly.
Roger is survived by a son, Marty Collins (Patsy) of Monroe, NC, a son, Todd Collins (Wendy), of Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Dana Collins Bundick (Phillip) of Monroe, NC, a sister, Elizabeth Honeycutt of Monroe, NC, a sister, Judy Helms Greene (Ray) of Charlotte, NC, twelve grandchildren; Brad Collins (Tammy) of Monroe, NC, Maleah Collins of Monroe, NC, Alan Collins of Monroe, NC, Amanda Collins of Monroe, NC, Michelle Houchins (Eric) of Monroe, NC, Katlyn Martin (Mac) of Matthews, NC, René Hobbs of Monroe, NC, Christian Medlin of Monroe, NC, Holly Barrett (Darren) of Monroe, NC, as well as nineteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Price Collins, a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Price Connell, brothers; Boyce Collins, Tommy Collins, Gary Collins, Gerry Collins and great grandchild Justin Collins.
