Roy Lane "Buck" Whitley

Mr. Roy Lane "Buck" Whitley, of Monroe, NC, age 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his residence on January 23, 2020 from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

A Celebration of Life for Lane will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2020, in the Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 E. Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Pastor Carol Tate and Pastor Devin Baucom. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

The Whitley family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM, prior to the Celebration of Life. For those who wish to pay their respects prior to visitation, Mr. Whitley will lie in state in the Davis Funeral Chapel, beginning at 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Lane was born February 11, 1946 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Vergil & Mary York Whitley.  He was the husband for 42 years to Debbie Helms Whitley. Lane was the 4th of 6 children.  

Lane was a Piedmont High School Alumni. After school, Lane became a Master Carpenter and business owner of Buck Construction. After retiring, he loved to work outside, grill out dinner and became a Master Chef for his family and friends.  His passion for animals, especially his beloved Baby and Gabby was undeniable. Once ALS took his ability to speak, he loved spending time on Facebook catching up with all his family and friends. Lane loved spending time with his family and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter, Tori Whitley.  

Lane is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie Helms Whitley of Monroe NC, son Shane Whitley (Melanie) of Waxhaw NC, granddaughter Tori Whitley of Waxhaw NC, sister Brenda Hamilton of Monroe NC, sister Jane Baucom (Donnie) of Monroe NC, and brother Eddie Whitley (Sandra) of Monroe NC.

In addition to his parents, Lane was preceded in death by his brother Sherrill Whitley, his brother Gene Whitley and his brother-in-law Roy Hamilton.
