Wednesday, 25 October Tootie Broome, 79, entered the Church Triumphant surrounded by her loving family. Tootie was the daughter of the late Lucille Curry Williams and Marvin "Blackie" Williams. She was born 13 June 1944 in Monroe, NC.
Tootie was a people person. She never met a stranger. She had a unique gift of making others want to share their stories with her. Many young lives, who now have children of their own, knew Ms. Tootie's love. She taught for 20 years at the Charlotte Jewish Preschool in Charlotte, NC. Tootie enjoyed a "strong debate" giggling when her opponent became totally frustrated. She enjoyed all genres of music, especially gospel and country. She loved to sing along even if she was a beat or two behind, and she usually was. Tootie was a strong woman who loved fiercely.
She became "Nanny" to seven grandchildren. They captured her heart and she theirs.
Tootie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 28 years, Wade Broome, two grandsons, Jon Mills and Zyler McNabb, and her sister, Sally Williams.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Mills and Mike Mills (Sandy), two daughters, Blake Blackman (Jason) and Maribeth Hidalgo (Steven). Grandchildren: Colton Mills, Noah McNabb, Ellie Suarez, Alexandria (Roo) Suarez, and Jadon Hidalgo, along with her sister, Susan Williams.
There will be a graveside service at 2:00pm, 5 November at Lakeland Memorial Park. The service will be officiated by her dear friend, Rabbi Faith Friedman Cantor of Baltimore, MD. Immediately following the service a celebration of Tootie's life will be held at Treehouse Vineyards.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Jessica and Shivan from Hospice. We are grateful for the care you gave Tootie.
