Barbara Ann Harkey Hagler, 88, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 in the Jesse Helms Center. Her funeral will be on at 2 PM Friday, June 10, 2022 at Faith Baptist Church in Hemby Bridge with Rev. Donnie Crump and Butch Byrum officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucy Helms Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM prior to the hour of service.
Born January 24, 1934 in Cumberland County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Madison Harkey and Julia Ann Faulkner Harkey. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and was retired from Copes Vulcan in Charlotte. She also worked at Shiloh Elementary School after she retired. Mrs. Hagler loved going to church and she loved to sing. She and her husband were faithful to visit the sick after they retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, J. Lee Hagler. Survivors include two daughters Peggy Wallace and husband Richard of Marshville, Tammy Horne and husband Phillip of Unionville, brother Jerry Harkey of Monroe, sisters Shelvia Wallace of Simpsonville, SC and Patsy Price of Monroe, grandchildren Brandy Wright, Crystal Anderson, and Andy Wallace, and 6 great-grandchildren Cameron Dutton, Carmen Wright, Lexi Smith, Bryanna Wisser, Dillon Anderson, Alanna Edwards, and 2 great-great grandchildren, Amaya and Amara Dutton.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County.
