Doris (Medlin) Broome

Doris Medlin Broome passed away peacefully on the evening of November 6, 2023.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Claude Smith Broome.  They had been married for 75 years.  She was born and lived her whole life in Union County where she was loved by many friends and an extensive family.

She was an avid gardener who loved roses and in years past grew beautiful orchids in her greenhouse.  She had an extensive knowledge of plants of all kinds. She and her longtime friend, Margaret Fincher, shared a passion for flowers.

She was mother to Perry Broome (Susan), grandmother to Gabe (Lauri) and Chris (Amy) Broome and great grandmother to Lofton and Ashton Broome and Brynn Purcell.  She is survived by her brother Jerry Medlin (Esther) and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.  She expressed many times how thankful she was to have kept her great-niece Allison Burton from a small child to a young woman.  It was far more than “babysit”. Doris was predeceased by brothers F.J., Wayne and Bruce Medlin.  

Doris, in her last requests, asked that after her passing that all celebrate rather than mourn.  She wanted her family and friends to remember the happy times and be upbeat in their remembrances.

The family would like to thank the kind care givers at Clear Creek Nursing and the incredible people, one and all, at Hospice.

The funeral will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, North Carolina at 11 AM on Friday, November 10, 2023 and the family will receive in the family life center at the church at 10 AM prior to the service.
