Irene Donovan

October 26, 1931 ~ September 30, 2021 (age 89)

Obituary

Ms. Irene Clunie Donovan, age 89, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Monroe Rehabilitation Center.

Irene was born on October 26, 1931 in Bristol Co., MA, a daughter of the late Robert M. Clunie and Irene M. Fournier Clunie. Irene loved to keep herself busy and young at heart. She was a secretary for an airline company for many years. After retiring at the age of 55, she continued to work as a league coordinator for a bowling alley and volunteer her time to other causes. She was a member of the Matthews Senior Center for over 10 years and volunteered much of her time there. Irene loved to play BINGO and could always be found at the Matthews Senior Center on Tuesdays and Fridays for their weekly games. Irene was a talented writer who could come up with a poem in a snap. She was known for always writing a poem to celebrate the growth of her family. A sister, mother, and grandmother, Irene loved her family dearly. She enjoyed going "galavanting" on Saturdays with her daughter-in-law, Kim, where they would spend the day shopping, having lunch and making precious memories together. Irene loved to spoil her family and enjoyed buying gifts for everyone, especially the grandchildren. An avid wine lover, Irene enjoyed a strong port wine, sitting on the porch and admiring the wind blow through the cypress trees.

Those left to cherish Irene's memory include her son James Donovan (Kim), three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
