Friends will be received Monday, August 30th, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112. A funeral service to honor and celebrate Kay's life will be held the following day; Tuesday, August 31, at 11:00am in the H. Vann Davis III Memorial Chapel at Davis Funeral Service.
Kay was preceded in death by her siblings, R.B. (Hazel) Mangum, Kenneth (Henrietta) Mangum, Wayne (Smokey) Mangum, and her brother in law, Charles Ray Hamilton.
Kay was born on February 25, 1942 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late C.B. Mangum and Margie Adeline Austin. Kay was an educator for over 43 years. She taught in both the Monroe City Schools and Union County Public School Systems. She took great pride in her role as a teacher and continued to touch the lives of her students throughout her entire career. Kay was a giver, she loved to take care of people and was constantly putting others needs before her own. She enjoyed social outings with the "Lunch Bunch", a group of high school friends she remained close with over the years, and was very active in her sorority, even serving as the president for a while. The most important thing in Kay's life, however, was her family. She spent as much time with them as possible and loved having them close.
Those left to cherish Kay’s memory include her sister, Virginia Lenelle Hamilton, her loving son, Stewart (Marie) Spittle; her grandson, Austin Spittle; and several nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to Union Academy Foundation, an organization in which she contributed too regularly and held dear to her heart.
