Obituary

Lester E. Stewart, 87 years old, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, on March 29th, 2023.  Services to be held on Monday, April 3rd, 2023 at Davis Funeral Service in Monroe, NC.

Lester was born April 15th, 1935 in Marietta, OH.  Son of Clyde Edgar Stewart and Bessie Weinel Stewart, he had one older brother Clyde Edgar, Jr and one younger brother Lawrence.

Shortly after his birth, the family moved to McKeesport, PA where the brothers grew up together.

After high school, Lester joined the US Steel McKeesport plant as an apprentice. Later he was asked to move to Fairless Hills, PA to help start up the new Fairless Works Steel Plant in 1955.  In Fairless Hills, he met Frances Walsh.  The two began dating, and then were engaged to be married.

In 1958 Lester was drafted in the US Army and served in various positions.  He enjoyed his assignment as a sea going soldier, patrolling the US intercoastal water ways.

He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1960. After returning, he married Frances at the Saint Frances Cabrini Church.  He also returned to the Fairless Works Steel plant as a motor inspector.

They quickly started a family, with Lester, Jr being born in 1961, and John in 1963.  The boys were raised in the house they purchased in Langhorne, PA.

Lester enjoyed bowling, CB Radios and wood working.  He was an officer in the REACT Radio Club for many years.

He and Fran also purchased a travel trailer, which the family enjoyed camping in.  In 1976, Lester had a 13 week vacation and the family took a cross country tour of the US.

Lester retired after 40 years from US Steel.  He and Fran decided to move south, purchasing a home in Monroe, NC and also established a summer home in Myrtle Beach, SC. They enjoyed many years of a happy retirement between the two locations.  In Monroe, Lester spent much of his time in his woodworking shop where he turned out beautiful pieces of art for family and friends. In Myrtle Beach, they became roadies of the band Country Ramblers.

Lester was a great man who could fix anything, and was always willing to help.  He is greatly loved and leaves behind his wife, Frances (Walsh) Stewart, his sons Lester Jr (Kristi) and John (Cheryl), grandchildren Lester III (Jennifer), Sara Harris (Brandon), John (Amber), Peter (Jamie), and Katherine, great grandchildren Tristanie, Emilee, Lester Elliott, Gradyn Harris, Adalyn Harris, Oskar, Alex, and William.  He also leaves behind 1 brother, Clyde Jr, a sister and brother in law, Joan and Bob Galant, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He  was predeceased by his parents and his brother Lawrence.
