Mrs. Mary Jones Wade, age 79, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at home while surrounded by her family. A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be conducted at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at First Baptist Church, 109 W. Morrow Street, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by her pastor, Dr. Chris Dawson, and Dr. John Jones. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Mary was born on April 11, 1942, in Florence County, South Carolina, to the late Grady John Jones and the late Ollie Matthews Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.W. (Bill) Wade, Jr., a daughter, Kimberly Ann Wade, and siblings Ilee Jones Lee, Hubert Leonard Jones, Jackie Jones Bucher, and W.R. (Mutt) Jones.
Mary attended the Spartanburg School of Nursing, and upon graduation, began a career that spanned over 50 years. In 2017, she officially retired to devote her time and nursing skills to caring for her husband, Bill. The care and compassion that Mary had for others extended beyond her career. She valued her extended family and close friends, and she worked diligently to maintain those close ties throughout her life. She was known to invent silly holiday skits and family sing-a-longs for the gatherings she planned, and celebrated family events through her original poems. In addition to making memories with her family, Mary loved to garden and craft. Most importantly, she cherished her relationship with her Lord, and in her later years, valued the friendships and activities she found at First Baptist Church of Monroe.
Survivors include daughter, Dr. Tamara Wade-Harbin (Jonathan) of Monroe; son, Springs Wade of Asheville, NC; close friend and caregiver, Tami Acquino of Asheville, NC; sister, Ira Snead of Spartanburg, SC; brother, John Jones of Chesterfield, SC; sister, Shirley Macklin (Bill) of Cary, NC; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved companions, Annie and Kitty, who brought her such comfort since Bill’s passing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region.
Davis Funeral Service is honored to be serving the family of Mary Jones Wade.
