Matthew Carpenter Obituary

Matthew Scot Carpenter of Monroe, NC passed peacefully in the early hours Thursday, June 18, 2020.  Known to most as simply Matt, he was surrounded by family and friends throughout the last few weeks of his life.

Matt was preceded in death by his mother Chris Park Lucas and stepfathers Jon Lucas, Dick Worley. Uncle Tom Park; Grandmothers and grandfathers; Anne McBride Park; Clint and Rachel Carpenter; Donald and Donnie Helms.

Matt is survived by his father and stepmom; Ron and FreidaCarpenter; sisters, Whitney Hinson (Bradley) and Becca Schumacher (Jon); stepbrother Jonathan Lucas (Dawn) and stepsister Mary Lucas Lacey (Bob); Uncle Cam Park (Kristen) and his beloved nieces & nephews Elle,Emerson,Harper Hinson; Hannah, Jake, Zane, BreSchumacher.

Matthew was born in Fort Rucker, AL on March 26, 1971.  Most will tell you they are pretty sure he was born with a fishing rod in hand.  When he caught his famous 5 lbs bass at the age of 5, it was almost as big as he. Matt was an avid outdoorsman who loved to live off the land and appreciated every single aspect of nature. A turtle stranded on the road never had to worry if Matt was passing by nor did any lost animal.  His love for all animals was constant up until his last breath. His loyal and trustworthy best friend Red, his 12 yr old rescue lab, is proof enough that Matt believed everyone, furry or not, deserved a chance and a helping hand. He loved the outdoors so much he made sure that was where his office was as well. Most would argue he was one of the best at operating heavy construction equipment.  Matt was loved by so many in the community.  His bright light and laugh and his impeccable gift at telling the best stories on the planet will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a believer that God was his Lord and Savior and is now fishing with the Greatest Fisher of Men on the most Heavenly Lake.

Due to the Corona Virus and the safety of all those we love and those who loved Matt, the family has chosen to host a Celebration of Life in the late Fall of 2020.  In lieu of flowers please, if you feel compelled, donate in Matt’s memory to Hospice of Union County or Humane Society of Union County, Monroe, NC. God Bless.
