Paul was born on September 11, 1939, in Beckley, West Virginia, the son of the late Robert H. Doan and Geraldine Shook Doan. Throughout his life, Paul remained a dedicated member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. A man who was devoted to his faith and his family, Paul was a strong Christian seven days a week. Whether he was coaching softball, cooking for an event at church, or offering words of encouragement, he could always be found helping others. Lighthearted and full of life, he always offered a warm greeting and plenty of laughter. Paul displayed a constant interest in the lives of those around him, and always sent a constant reminder through countless birthday or Christmas cards to let the ones he loved know they were on his mind. In his free time, he enjoyed college football and NASCAR, but only if this did not conflict with a family event. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly, and anything that was important to them mattered greatly to him. Setting an example of faith, hope, and love, Paul will be lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
Left to cherish Paul’s memory is his daughter, Crystal Gilliard (Bryan), his son, Eric Doan (Randi), his sisters, Frances Sparks and Margaret Farley (Jack), and his beloved six grandchildren: Brandon Crump, Matthew Crump, Austin Gilliard, MJ Doan, Sawyer Doan, and Sonny Doan.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death and is now reunited in eternal life with his wife, Judy Doan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul's honor can be made to the Pleasant Plains Baptist Building Fund, 3316 Pleasant Plains Rd, Matthews, NC 28105 or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC, 28110.
