Mr. Richard “Richie” Leon Brown III, age 53, of Waxhaw, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Atrium Health – Waxhaw.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 725 Deese Street, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Father Benjamin Roberts. Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112. Interment will immediately follow funeral mass at Lakeland Memorial Park.
Richie Brown was born on February, 27, 1968 in Brooklyn, NY. The only son to the late Richard Leon Brown II. And the Youngest son to Joan Pennington/ Brown/ Meloni. In addition to his father, Richie was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Boy; his step-father, Erasmo Meloni; and his grandmother, Letitia Pennington; and uncles Thomas, and Bobby Pennington.
Richie spent 23 years of his life as a sanitation officer serving the city he loved, New York. After retirement, he and his wife, Kristina, relocated to Waxhaw, NC. A son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Richie cherished the unbreakable bond of family. He never met a stranger and always treated everyone as an extension of his family. Richie was a larger than life personality and his presence lit up any room. He appreciated a sense of style, but nothing too flashy. His gravelly, undeniable Brooklyn accent filled every room he entered, often making him heard before he was seen. He believed in living every moment of life to the fullest and can be remembered as always loving hard, fighting hard and playing hard. Richie was very proud of his Irish Heritage and would turn St. Patrick’s Day into a month-long celebration each year. Richie was an outdoors enthusiast, and come the fall could often be found in a tree stand. Richie will be greatly missed by all that knew him and his quote “Here for a good time, not a long time” will live on through his family and friends.
Richie is survived by his mother Joan Meloni, wife, Kristina Brown; and children; Daniel, Jamie, Madigan Anne, Joseph “JoJo” ; his niece, Lauren Boniface-Kerr (Nicholas); and his niece, Samantha Irene Boniface; and three grandchildren, Travis James-Kerr, Antonio Boniface, and Andriana Boniface.
