Obituary

Velma Boatwright, 92, of Waxhaw passed away on February 5, 2023.  Her funeral service will be at 2 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Union United Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Cunningham.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1 until 2 prior to the hour of the service.   

Born August 5, 1930 in Chesterfield County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Torrence Smith and Nellie Melton Smith.  She was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Waxhaw and worked as an inspector with Springs Industries in Fort Mill, SC. 

Mrs. Boatwright is survived by her husband of 72 years, Samuel B. Boatwright of the home.  Other survivors include son Samuel Keith Boatwright of Waxhaw and Donald Wayne Boatwright of Waxhaw, sister Carolyn Blackwell of Gaston, SC, brother Frank Smith of Fort Mill, SC, and sister in law Linda Boatwright Whitaker of Indian Trail. 

The family requests that memorial gifts be made to Union United Methodist Church, 6315 New Town Road, Waxhaw, NC, 28173.
