William Roten Obituary

William Troy Roten, known to friends and loved ones simply as Troy, bid farewell to this world on December 30, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of his home, at the age of 76.

Born on January 10, 1947, in Wilkes County to Lloyd and Pauline Royal Roten, Troy thrived in the embrace of his bustling family, sharing his upbringing with five brothers and three sisters. Their close-knit bond laid the foundation for Troy's profound appreciation for kinship and unity.

Having graduated from Wilkes Central High School in 1967, Troy embarked on a valorous path, enlisting in the US Army on May 21, 1968. His time as a Sergeant in the esteemed 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, echoed his unwavering commitment and gallantry, lasting until his honorable discharge on May 24, 1974.

Beyond his military service, Troy dedicated 27 fulfilling years of his life as a dedicated truck driver for Harris Teeter, where his hard work and reliability were unmatched.

The pinnacle of Troy's life was marked by his union in marriage with Mary Annette McKeown on December 17, 1988. With this union came the profound joy of being "Papa T" to Jamie and Doug Hagans, Beth Chapman, and Karen Moldovan. His affection overflowed to nine grandchildren and a remarkable 19 great-grandchildren, filling his days with boundless love and cherished moments.

Troy was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter – 95 Union County, NC since 1984 having served as its Commander for the last two years.  His heart brimmed with compassion for fellow veterans. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 208 in Waxhaw for the last 10 years.  His involvement with Camp Corral for children showcased his unyielding dedication to nurturing and empowering the younger generation.

Since September 21, 1998, Troy wholeheartedly embraced his role as a leader in TOPS 613 of Waxhaw, embodying his commitment to health and communal support.

Among his varied commitments, Troy found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life— moments spent with his treasured family, the exhilaration of motorcycle rides, and the serenity of camping under the stars.

Troy Roten's departure leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of so many who knew him intimately. His legacy is one of selflessness, devotion, and an endless display of love that will continue to resonate and live on through the hearts of everyone touched by his presence.

Troy Roten—a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and beacon in his community-leaves behind a profound and enduring legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
